Nicholas J. Higham, FRS, is Richardson Professor of Applied Mathematics at The University of Manchester, UK. He is the author of more than 100 publications and of the books Accuracy and Stability of Numerical Algorithms (SIAM, 2nd ed., 2002), Handbook of Writing for the Mathematical Sciences, (SIAM, 2nd ed., 1998), and MATLAB Guide, (with Desmond J. Totally Excellent Book!

Functions of Matrices is a very useful topic, and this is the only book on it, and it is excellent. The material in it will allow me to expand some research I have done in the topic "Functions of sets of matrices" in new directions.

You might be aware that the author has "written the book" on how to write a good math book ("Handbook of Writing for the Math Sciences", another great book) and this is an excellent example.
