Fast paced but still plenty of suspense and sexy moments

Fast paced suspense best describes this sequel to Against the Wind. Here we have the sister and brother of the main characters from the first book getting involved at their siblings wedding when a stalker decides to take things a step further against the heroine.
Drew Davenport in the first book was out to put Mia Alvarez brother in prison for a crime he thought he committed. He is an FBI Agent and thought his fellow agent Michael Alvarez was dirty. At the conclusion to that book both Drew and Michael were wounded.
This book pickup at the wedding of Michael and Blair (Drew’s sister). Drew is still recovering from his wounds and having a bit of an emotional crisis about his life. He loves his sister and is glad that she is happy but he wants to get back on the job where he feels the most comfortable. When he first meets Mia he thinks she is stuck up but its not long before he sees how wrong his first impression was.
Mia comes to the wedding with a few secrets she is hiding from her family. She knows if she tells anyone, especially her brother, they will want to get involved and she doesn’t want to ruin her brother’s special day. But when one of those problems makes an appearance at the reception Drew ends up getting involved and quite the spark is ignited between them.
As this isn’t a long novel things are rushed a bit in the romance and action scenes but the author writing style makes it to where this isn’t an issue as reading. The chemistry between Drew and Mia was so hot it was easy to overlook.

Romantic Suspense At Its Best

Have you ever had the breath knocked out of you just by looking at someone? Witnessing their vibrancy and beauty just rivets your gaze and you can’t look away. Well this is what Drew feels when he catches sight of Mia at his sister’s wedding.
Drew is healing after almost being killed, and on desk duty for the FBI. He’s taking a little break while attending his sister, Blair’s wedding down in the Gulf Coast. But when he returns Drew plans on getting his life and career back on track without distractions. Drew doesn’t plan on falling for a woman so swiftly but Mia, the groom’s sister, captures his attention so fully he can’t help himself. When it becomes clear she’s in danger from a stalker, Drew makes it his mission to keep Mia from harm. His protective and possessive feelings spring up so intensely there’s just no fighting it.
Mia is avoiding men since the last one, Lowell, ruined her job. She doesn’t want to worry her family or worse, get anyone hurt, but he wouldn’t take no for an answer and caused all kinds of problems so Mia quit. When she meets Drew it’s clear that he’s intense, and that’s exactly what she’s trying to stay away from, but he’s also sweet, tender, and very protective. So protective that when he finds out Lowell followed Mia to the Gulf Coast he won’t let her out of his sight.
I’m not usually a fan of insta-love, but in this case it just worked. I think sometimes you just know when a person is right for you. Also, Drew and Mia were thrown together, first by their matchmaking family and then by fortuitous events, like getting stuck in an elevator together, so I felt like they did the equivalent of several dates by the time they realized the depth of their feelings for each another. Drew and Mia had amazing chemistry so it was just a matter of “when” not “if” they’d be together. We got a lot of steam and heat before actual ignition so things didn’t feel rushed when they finally gave into their desires.
The dangerous situation Mia and Drew are confronted with had my heart racing in a few scenes worrying about how things would work out, lending a nice amount of thrill to the story. But don’t freight, this is a romance so you know we’ll be left happy by the end. I was pleased that with the short amount of pages (Amazon lists 118 pages) there was still a sweet and satisfying epilogue!
I didn’t read Against The Wind the previous story, and it’s not necessary to enjoy Just One Look, but I’d love to go back now and discover Blair and Michael’s story.
Virginia Kelly does wonders with romantic suspense with just the right amounts of danger, sizzle and tenderness to capture your heart and keep your attention!

Exciting, Fun and Sexy

I don't know what it is, but for some reason, when the weather gets warmer, I get into the mood for a good romantic suspense. I am probably more finicky with this sub-genre, than any other. I very, very, very rarely try out new authors, because it just seems this is the area where heroines can be really, really awesome or Carol Brady sans Alice. HELPLESS! Ugh! But, guess what?? I took a chance and it paid off tremendously!! Yay!!
I loved this tee-tiny little book! Drew is wounded and suffering from his inability to return to the field and maybe just a little anxiety about his inability to perform *ahem* since his shooting. (too, too, cute) So, I'm thinking "uh, oh! Macho, injured fed". This undoubtedly means he's closed off and afraid to feel because of the danger, blah, blah, blah..... You know! And you've read it a buh-zillion times. But, guess what?? That's not what happened!! Yay!!
In Just One Look, we have instant attraction, revived sex drive, crazy stalker, a sensible, level headed but not boring or ball busting heroine, and all kinds of action, fun, emotion and crazy family interference. I mean this all takes place at a wedding. And SEX!! Let's not forget the best part. It was just the right condiment for this lovely romantic buffet. Think a zesty vinagrette, spicy but not so powerful as to overwhelm.
This book takes no time at all to read. *sadly* I could have happily went for another couple of hundred pages. But, that does make it perfect for a quick poolside read or just lazing about for a weekend afternoon. You really, really need to check out Virginia Kelly's Just One Look. You should also expect to see more of her on this blog. I need to check out Mia's brother's. Yummo! Job extremely well done, brava.
