About the Author
Professor Paul W. Darst received his B.S. and M.S. from the University of Akron and his Ph.D. from Ohio State University. He is currently a professor in the Department of Kinesiology at Arizona State University. In his career, he has served as a secondary school teacher, a high school coach, a college teacher and coach, and as a university professor and researcher. He has done numerous presentations for teachers on new ideas for middle and high school physical education. Dr. Darst's current research interests have focused primarily on fitness routines and activities for middle school students. He has written and edited 10 textbooks and more than 50 research/professional journal articles. Darst is a co-author with Robert Pangrazi on the popular textbook Dynamic Physical Education for Secondary School Students, now in its fourth edition.

It has good information for teachers but there are better choices

The old version is cheap but is black and white. Older issues or the older for elementary are colored. The new editions are very expensive and are black and white. You can buy the book by itself but it makes more sense buying the corresponding book to understand the material. I think it should all be in one book again because of price. None of the books come with CD. A lot of books now and even older ones have CD and have the same type of material all in one book. It has good information for teachers but there are better choices.

All was good in their relationship up until the night they got married. On that night, she was faced with an ugly truth about her husband that she didn’t see coming. Lyric realized then that God answered her prayers and she got everything that she wanted except the one thing that mattered the most… A loving husband!
Ty is the guy every woman wants to have. He’s handsome, successful, and most of all, a ladies man. What the women don’t know about him though, is that Ty is a womanizer, a woman beater, and a spoiled brat. He feels that everything should go his way and if it doesn’t he has no problem taking things out on his gorgeous wife with his fists.
Blessing, her best friend’s brother, has loved Lyric since they were kids, and he wants nothing more than to have her as his. His thuggish demeanor and handsome looks draw women to him, but he only wants Lyric.

Absolutely not.

Let me start out by saying that if there is a way for me to get my 99 cents back, I would like to explore that option.

This is THE WORST bit of anything I have ever read. I don't even have the heart to call it a book. The only way to salvage this is to give all revenue earned from the sale of it to someone with at least a grade school education that is willing to edit it. Misspellings, bad spacing, and improper sentence structure are the high points. I at least got a good laugh at that. But to think the author of this book couldn't even keep the names of her characters straight!!! Oh and I would like to add that if you enjoy watching the voice change from third to first person mid-sentence, then you are indeed in for a good treat. Tack on the unnecessary violent rape scenes, cliche hood references and an implausible story line, and this book definitely earns no stars. I'm disgusted. My only comfort is in knowing that I was dared to read this and make it to the end.

ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS I'VE EVER READ!

First I'd like to say that Mesha is a bomb ass author!!! She is very thorough and makes you understand every character. Her other books are A1 but THIS one?? Omg!!! It not only keeps you mesmerized as there is no dull moment in this book but it's very emotional. It's fiction but stuff like this happens every day. This book was expensive from start to finish. I won't give the book away but you're healed of you aren't ready to fight after finishing lol Lyric represents soooooo many women out there. I recommend this book to anyone who loves a real, thrilling, juicy read!!! Patiently waiting on part 2

Yes ma'am... the author takes u there... in to the world behind the fasade that many married women live in today without ever uttering a word! This book will have experiencing a plethora of emotions... and will leave you wanting more. I was not able to put it down. I won't spoil but I hope Blessing ends up being more than just a name when it comes to Lyric... in the situation she finds herself in at the end she definitely needs a blessing. As for Sarah I hope she gets what she has coming to her Lord knows she deserves something to put her in check with reality... because she is unaware of her position... or should I say how to play her positition.... I have no nice words to say about Ty... he needs help so many times I wanted to jump into the book on him... lol! But that is what this book does... it makes you interact with the charachters... some will u want to cuss out others u will have sympathy for... and some u will just flat out want to reach out and touch... but most importantly it will keep you turning pages. Excellent read! #Salute

Come Up With Serene Responses to Today's Suttle Racism

I just finished reading this book, this morning. And, I read "Roots," 2 weeks ago. In both of these books, I was able to vicariously be there, and emotionally travel with each person in these stories.

And it gave me a sense of peace that I had not had before about being African-American. It helped me to come up with the most empowering responses to not only suttle racism from Euro-Americans, but also suttle responses to African-Americans who seem to be bound by expecting to just get by (who also believe that empowered African-Americans somehow owe them endless worthiness).

To me, even though this book is titled "Queen," it has many stories: politics; narcissism; racism; boys growing into manhood; belonging; the price of not having someone to verbalize your pains to; and, how whites turned their outrage over their motherland into what drove them to do the same to blacks, in this country.

During the entire time that I was reading these 2 books, as I conducted my day to day responsibilities, I felt like I had a secret weapon against being held back. And I saw things that I might not have seen before in what I could do to turn suttle racism into my opportunity to expect mutual respect between myself and my interlocutor.

I recommend this book, and "Roots" to any who is looking for a means to grow beyond your wildest expectations. You will cry with these stories, laugh, and feel every possible emotion, knowing that you are breathing new life into your life.

Interesting story of a peculier situation

Ethnic novels really are not my thing. But this one had me interested after seeing pictures in a book on the civil war titled 'Slave Children of New Orleans' featuring mostly mixed race children of near caucasion appearence I became curious about them. Having read a great deal of the civil war there really isn't that much. So when I found this book I quickly took to reading it.

The main character is what is called 'A child of the plantation', the offspring of a slave owner and a slave woman the product not of love but of exploitation who are so casually discarded as to be a disgrace. In the beginning, she is very naive and optimistic. Regrettably, life doesn't treat her that well.

An interesting story. Admittedly I would have done things different but since this one is based on fact I can't rightly complain. I liked reading about the main character and how she was treated by all parties. Certainly I do not like that she was mistreated by many. Her ability to move among white circles was interesting only when her heritage is revealed do things get bad which disgusts me.

Overall, I take people at face value and wish everyone else would do the same. People should be judged by their behavior rather than by pseudo scientific nonsence.

After finding the dead woman's nickname, Suze, scrawled across a mirror in red lipstick, Zoe suspects that the house is haunted by her restless spirit. Zoe asks Merrily, the local diocesan exorcist, to exorcise the building, but Merrily's efforts turn into a public fiasco when Zoe films the rite and posts the video online. Things only get worse after another person dies on the premises, leaving Merrily to ascertain whether the cause of the new unnatural death was natural or supernatural. The creative and evocative prose ("the line of symmetrical windows above the conservatory was full of white light, like a row of perfect, crowned teeth") enhances the intelligently constructed plot and helps suspend disbelief. Great for Rickman fans, but also could be an introduction to the Merrily series for new readers

This is a great short book (novella) for all Rickman fans, as we wait impatiently for the next novel installment of the Merrily Watkins series. It has everything that we fans love about Rickman's work: compelling, complex characters, a suspenseful mystery that could be supernatural....or not....and his masterful writing that includes suspense and enough detail to help us really sink into Merrily's world. For fans of the Merrily series, it's also wonderful to be able to sink into Merrily's world for a bit. And my favorite thing? Even though this is a Kindle single, it's actually novella length, not a short story, and is as long as some short novels! I feel like I got my money's worth! And I also laughed out loud about some of the comments about Facebook in this novella, especially since the author participates in a lively page dedicated to his work!

But I think this also has a potential to be a book to recommend to those who have not read any of the books in the Merrily Watkin's series. Rickman has done a great job of giving enough context to the characters that you don't have to have read the other books to understand this one--it is, after all, a stand-alone work. Everything that makes his other books great is here: Merrily Watkins, the very human Deliverance Consultant (ie. Exorcist) for the Church of England, who deals daily with the lack of faith in the world around her, and people's reactions to her as a woman, and as a representative of something many people don't want to believe in. Deliverance is called, by her own advisor, the last resort, and in this novella, and in others, she struggles with the ways in which people don't want to believe in the work she does, and yet find themselves consulting her. Of course, the real thing driving this novella forward (and this is true for the novels too), is just a cracking good story, with elements of the supernatural, but it is the complex characters and moral dilemmas they face that make these books leaps and bounds above the average mystery.

If you're a Rickman fan, this a must buy, but if you just want an well written mystery, or a good ghost story, try this. But be warned: after you read this, you'll want to read all the Merrily books! And they are highly recommended!

A creepy Christmas present from Phil Rickman

Synopsis: Merrily Watkins, Diocesan Deliverance Consultant (aka "exorcist") is called in to investigate a haunted house. Current owner Zoe hates old things, and loved her mod 1960s-era house, but had no idea that the home was the site of a suicide. When strange happenings begin to occur, Zoe finds Merrily's phone number on Facebook and calls to ask for help. Is this a scam, a simple haunting, or something more complex?

All of Phil Rickman's Merrily Watkins novels are excellent but difficult to classify - a mixture of mystery, horror and paranormal. This short story is no exception. This is a great introduction to Merrily's world, or a wonderful addition to the series.

If you are a Merrily Watkins fan (and you should be!), this novella will tide you over until Phil Rickman's next book in this excellent series emerges. I almost think, though, that the novella would have been better as a full-length book. It felt a little rushed, especially the conclusion. Still totally worth it and I am a very happy reader!

I would not recommend it for the casual reader

This is an excellently conceived and documented book on the practices of lynching. I would not recommend it for the casual reader, however, because it is full of statistics, charts, diagrams and other research methodological approaches. It is appropriate to a classroom study on the history of racism and American style terrorism practiced on African Americans. If you are interested in the historical development of police practices in the South and even in states such as Missouri you can learn how the entire criminal justice system (ie sheriff departments, police, judges, juries and courts) operated against the best interests of local black populations.
