Right price.

I suppose that for this price, it is bad-mannered to be demanding. And indeed, this guide did help me in quickly discovering what DS can do.So, 3 stars.

But it is far from being a finished educational product: for instance:
- The walk-through examples are a built as a list of steps, all equal, some trivial ("step 126- click OK "), but some initiating new turns in the script, that really deserve examination. Uncommented code, if you prefer...(ok, there are some comments at the end, but structure would have been better)
- Some items are - let's say - light in content- eg, its explanation of "page book" is : "the page book ... provides you with the ability to split the dashboard in several pages". Well, that's what the help told me already. What would have been useful, is an example.
- The whole thing is a bit vendor-demo-ish: I would have like some examples of working cases with a real "bite" (and even better, comments on the limits of the product met by the early adopters...).
- There is no comments on the technology/architecture. I think that this is missing, because at that stage of the product life, educated comments on how it relates to the datasources, what are the performances factors, etc...would probably help the decision process of the companies considering switching to DS....

So, it saved me a few hours of a Sunday afternoon, but I feel that it is falling short of what we can expect. I assume that next versions will be more substantial ...

Great Way to Learn BusinessObjects Design Studio

The book provides detailed step-by-step instructions on how to use Design Studio, from beginner level to advanced level. Those who know Ingo Hilgefort will appreciate that he tells you what works and won't work in this tool. You can follow along the examples using the SAP NetWeaver demo model.

He reviews the options of who uses Design Studio and who consumes the content from Design Studio. He also reviews the deployment options - whether it be local, BW or BI Platform.

He covers Custom Style Sheets (CSS. The book contains step by step directions for creating simple to complex applications, using scripts. He shows you how to create your own template. If you are not a programmer you can still follow the steps in the book to get your Design Studio application running.

I highly recommend this book, and at $9.99 it is an inexpensive investment to learn Design Studio. If you do not own a Kindle device you can download a Kindle reader to your PC, iPhone, iPad, etc. to read this book. There is also a Kindle cloud reader available.

The most satisfactory method of executing the work shown in Fig. 214 is to build the suction well before disturbing the outside ground. With this well in operating condition the trench can be dug from the well toward the waterway and the pipe laid as fast as the dirt is removed. This will allow the water in the trench to drain to the well, from which it can be removed by the regular pump or a temporary one. It is important that the joints in the pipe be tight if they are to be encased in concrete, as water passing through the fresh concrete to the inside of the pipe will wash out the cement and leave only the loose material. Flowers are the just the sweetest things...

The book begins with a beautiful quote: "Flowers are the sweetest thing God ever made and forgot to put a soul into." Now I think some hippies would disagree, haha, but you can tell Soon Y Warren is smitten with them. One look at her striking and realistic renditions of nature's most beautiful and delicate offerings and you will understand why she is such a celebrated, award-winning artist. She uses many layers and texture techniques that may sound more advanced, but beginners are not to be discouraged, as she explains how to fully utilize common tools and gives a detailed color palette description. I truly haven't found such a helpful guide for painting flowers since the section Zoltan Sabo gives in his Painting Little Landscapes. Experiment with Soon Y Warren's light and shadow techniques, or just enjoy the pictures!

A Great Classic

This is a classic in stochastic processes. It is targeted to those who will use the material in practice and it is not a theoretical text. It has excellent material on martingales, Poisson Processes, Wiener processes, and the like. It is dated and I had used it when it first came out. It is useful for anyone working in the area. If one is doing research in the mathematical areas this is not the book for you. This is quite useful for those in engineering, controls and communications, and others areas using random process theory. It covers the basics.

A well-written classic introduction to stochastic theory

The math which goes into stochastic theory is key and fundamental; this book is a very readable introduction to the material. Where most books just have the equations (and typically in the tersest form possible), this book makes an effort to explain what is going on "in words" and through some examples.

If you are in a class or working with material where a firm understanding of stochastic theory is necessary, this is a good book to help you get up to speed. This is definitely not an advanced-level book or completely up-to-date, but the basics haven't changed. If you can find it used, it is cheap, too.

Limited Scope

I purchased this Cisco Press book at Cisco's recommendation for the ICND1 and ICND2 exam. I then purchased Cisco's preparation exams, and found that the Exam goes into far more depth than the book covers. Either the practice exam is not scaled to the book and the true exam, or this book is poorly written. Either way, I feel disappointed.
